Richard has worked within critical care in the UK and Australia, cardiac care and acute care. He has spent much of his career focusing on improving care for the acutely unwell adult focusing particularly the role of technology can play which was regionally and nationally recognised. In 2019, Richard was appointed to his current role as Head of Nursing (Digital Transformation) supporting nursing, midwifery and AHP (NMAHP) services through the implementation of the acute electronic patient record across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Richard has also grown a unique multi professional Digital NMAHP Team and a team of Digital Matrons to enhance the NMAHP leadership and experience in digital.

The EPR implementation has been the largest in England including 10 hospitals and over 8000 nurses, midwives and AHP colleagues. Richard is now focusing on post go live optimisation activities  and opportunities to improve patient experience and develop nursing, midwifery and AHP practice. Richard has recently completed cohort 4 of the NHS Digital Academy Digital Health Leadership course.
