Alec is an NHS consultant rheumatologist and was the NHS’s first system CCIO for Coventry and Warwickshire Health and Care System. He is also the current clinical chair of Digital Health’s integrated care system (ICS) Digital Council.

Helen Balsdon has been appointed the new chief nursing information officer (CNIO) for NHS England, having taken the interim post in 2023. Hear how Helen plans to support the NHS’s nursing and midwifery workforce with digital tools and data science to deliver improvements in patient care.

Alongside nursing and midwifery, Helen’s leadership portfolio includes frontline digitisation, digital citizen and maternity and child health. The former Cambridge University Hospitals CNIO has been a Networks member since 2017, elected to its Advisory Panel and supported the next generation of CNIOs as a Networks mentor.
