Sharon Toora is the Lead Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, Basildon, with over 20 years of cardiology experience. She specialises in managing complex arrhythmias and device-related conditions, and has pioneered nurse-led, end-to-end pathways that improve patient outcomes. Sharon has also served on the CVD Prevention Programme Board for the Mid and South Essex ICS. A Cohort 4 Shuri Network Digital Fellow and Clinical Safety Officer, Sharon is passionate about digital innovation and patient-empowered care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led a digital transformation project using a clinically validated smartphone app to remotely monitor heart rhythms and detect atrial fibrillation—enhancing patient outcomes, experience and streamlining clinical workflows. Her work has been presented at Digital Rewired and internationally at HRX in Seattle. The initiative won the Global Cardiovascular Award 2024 for Digital Innovation and was shortlisted in the NHS Futures category at the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2024. Sharon was recently nominated to attend the Royal Garden Party by NHS England East and Mid & South Essex NHS Trust. She is a passionate advocate for inclusive leadership and empowering women in healthcare, serving as the Shuri Network Alumni Regional Lead for the East of England.
