Delivery of Integrated Health and Social care on EHR – the Northern Ireland experience

Northern Ireland was the first to operate within a Health and Social Care (HSCNI) integrated service model. It has done so since 1973.The HSCNI is currently implementing an Electronic Patient/Client Record to cover Acute, Community including Health Visiting, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, Social Care, Social Work and Healthcare in Prison services. This is based on the Epic platform and represents four implementations in five Trusts, covering a population of 1.95 million.

The first implementation was led in November 2023 by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. Serving a population of 365,000, this presentation covers the transformation of their services told in tandem with the story of their staff survey that chronicles staff experience over their first year of radical change. It is also a part of the first 15 months of connected comprehensive care in Northern Ireland, awaiting the final two trusts being live in May 2025.
