Dr Patrik Bächtiger

Dr. Patrik Bächtiger is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Acute Internal Medicine with a research focus on Digital Health at Imperial’s Health Impact Lab. His work explores implementation science for technology-enabled healthcare, optimising contextual factors that allow digital innovations to scale effectively. His research, published in leading journals such as Nature Digital Medicine and The Lancet Digital Health, has also been featured in major media outlets.
As a lead or co-investigator, Patrik’s work is supported by grants from NIHR, Imperial BRC, the British Heart Foundation, and Imperial Health Charity. His portfolio includes the TRICORDER cluster-RCT, a pioneering AI-powered cardiovascular diagnostic study, and projects on virtual wards, sleep apnoea diagnostics, large language models for patient empowerment, and wearable technology for cardiac rehabilitation. His implementation studies leverage sector-wide NHS data assets to assess clinical, economic, and workforce impacts.
Patrik completed his PhD at Imperial College and earned a Harvard MPH as a Knox Fellow, cross-registering at MIT and Harvard’s Medical, Business, and Kennedy Schools. He also brings his UK/US experience in medicine and health tech innovation to his role as a venture partner with KHP Ventures, the only NHS-anchored venture capital fund.
