Andy Carruthers

Group Chief Technology Innovation Officer, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust & University Hospitals Northamptonshire Group
Andy Carruthers is an accomplished digital leader with more than two decades of experience in technical, data, executive and board level roles driving transformation within the NHS. His career is marked by a series of innovative transformative achievements and successful technology refresh cycles. In 2019 Andy took the strategic decision at Leicester’s hospitals to be the development site for Nervecentre’s acute EPR platform. A key factor was the value of an iterative and developmental approach for engaging with and maintaining ownership by clinicians and operational teams. Other innovative achievements include the adoption of a first of type in the UK, EPR integrated unit dose medicines solution and the “FirstLight” apprenticeship programme to develop new digital healthcare talent. Currently serving as Group Chief Technology Innovation Officer for Leicester and Northamptonshire’s acute hospital group, Andy is leading the creation and execution of a digital roadmap that unites technology and people across organisational boundaries and the establishing of a product approach to EPR optimisation across the East Midlands Acute Providers (EMAP) in his role as Chief Product Officer. He is a strong advocate for clinical and operational leadership of the digital agenda and fostering of collaboration. His pragmatic, user focussed approach is supported and enabled by deep technical expertise, a commitment to trust, integrity and building of strong relationships in pursuit of better outcomes for staff and patients.
