Dr Shanker Vijay
GP Lead, Digital Transformation in Primary Care, NHS England (London region)
Dr Shanker Vijay is the GP Lead for Digital Transformation (Primary Care) at NHS England (London region) and a Digital/IT Lead for NHS North West London ICB. His leadership experience spans Board-level roles across both commissioning and provider organisations, with a long-standing focus on system-wide improvement. In London, he contributes to a broad portfolio of programmes including AI and automation (shortlisted for the HSJ Digital Award 2025), NHS App, Pharmacy First, Online registration and Online consultation. His previous transformation work includes Community and Intermediate Care, as well as NHS 111 and Urgent Care redesign. He is driven by a commitment to developing innovative, practical solutions that improve care for patients and working conditions for staff. A former EHI Award finalist for “Best Use of Social Media in Healthcare”, he now applies those communication and digital skills to deliver IT training for both patients and colleagues. A practising GP in North West London since 2004, he values patient feedback and is consistently rated as one of the top GPs on iWantGreatCare.
